Bright Bunnies Visit the
Ocean
A Bunny Field Trip
One warm day, the Bright Pink Bunny and the Bright Green Bunny decided to visit the ocean. They hopped quickly to the place where the sand began. They hopped carefully over the sand dunes. Then they hopped slowly through the sea grass growing in the dunes. When they heard a gentle bird song, they hopped quietly. Then they stopped to listen.
A mother plover was singing a gentle lullaby to her two baby birds. She smiled at the Bright Bunnies and stood up to greet them. She said, "Thank you for hopping so carefully. My fledglings are napping now. You were so kind to be quiet." The Bright Bunnies smiled and said, "You are welcome!"
Then the bunnies hopped through the wooden fence that helps protect the dunes. They hopped excitedly all the way down to the edge of the ocean. They called out, "Hello ocean!" They stretched the very tippy-tips of their paws into the waves to see how it felt.
The water felt too cold for swimming. It was just the right temperature to stick a paw in and out. The two friends laughed as the waves splashed against their fur.
The Bright Bunnies walked together along the edge of the ocean. They bent down for a closer look at some of the sea shells. The Bright Pink Bunny said, "Here is a scallop." The Bright Green Bunny said, "Here is a very smooth rock!"
The Bright Green Bunny held up a rock so smooth that it looked like an egg. The Bright Green Bunny said, "This rock is much smoother than the rocks in our garden. Do you know how this rock became smooth?" The Bright Pink Bunny answered, "I think it became smooth from being tossed about in the ocean waves!"
They gathered more shells and stones. Suddenly the Bright Pink Bunny held up a rounded rock with a stripe around it. The Bright Pink Bunny asked, "Have you ever seen a rock with a stripe running all the way around it?" The Bright Green Bunny exclaimed: "Yes! You have found a wishing stone."
The Bright Pink Bunny felt excited. After thinking a moment, the Bright Pink Bunny said, "Let's share this wishing stone!" The Bright Green Bunny said, "Thank you! Let's make a wish together." They wished to come back to the ocean soon and make something special. What do you think they wished to make on their next trip?
Here are some hints if you would like to try to guess our idea: they wanted to build something from sand and seawater with the help of a pail and shovel!
We'll post the wishes you send:
