Make fluttery butterflies from tissue paper or coffee filters. Follow the instructions below to create lovely three-dimensional butterflies.  This project is especially great for little kids (ages 2 1/2 -6) because the thin (almost translucent) papers really enhance any decorations added by a child.  They capture the light very well and are cheerful additions to sunny windows.  Start with the "bucket" shaped coffee filter that you flatten out, or cut out a circle from tissue paper that is about the size of a dinner plate.  Decorate the filters or tissue paper circles with crayons, markers, or tempera paint!  Glittery pipe cleaners or chenille stems look very fancy as antennae.  Ribbons are helpful in tying the butterflies up.  Special thanks to Chris Boyea of Northern Adirondack Central School and her kindergarten class in Ellenburg, New York, for inspiration and beautiful butterflies!
