Celebrating Illumination Night! As summer transitions to autumn, we enjoy celebrating the warm evenings with a campfire, singing and a special gathering called Illumination Night. It is a wonderful inspiration to collect or make lanterns! It also may inspire you to make a collection of your favorite songs that celebrate the sun, starlight and more. Your celebration might be a simple lantern lighting for two, or you might invite neighborhood children, friends & family. Traditional paper lanterns can sometimes be purchased from party planning stores or from a store specializing in decorative imports from China. This month, share in the fun with the Bright Pink Bunny's Illumination Night Party. Try our coordinating Illumination Night Add-Art pages. You can also make a wide variety of paper lanterns with careful adult supervision! For lanterns that might be handled by very young children, try using flashlight as your source of light, instead of a candle. Try our stress-free & kid-tested ideas for making your own lanterns! From a simple paper lantern that you can make with your favorite child, to a recycled tin lantern that requires grown-up care-- see our creating ideas. Over the years, family members have experimented with wood, recycled tin cans, paper, "Chinese lantern" flowers surrounded by sparkling candles, traditional candles and more! Creating celebrations, whether for a traditional holiday, a special family occasion or an invented reason, will help you share shining hours with your favorite children. Getting ready to celebrate something can be as much fun for children as the actual celebratory event. ©1999, 2000 ShiningHours.com.
