Tips for creating wonderful Creativity Baskets for Butterfly School:

BASIC CREATIVITY BASKET:

 crayons: red, orange, yellow, blue, green, purple, brown and black
 tape (check whether masking or adhesive removes easily for you)
 paper - plain, colors
 bold magic markers in blue, green, red and black
 scissors

Add to your CREATIVITY BASKET to expose your child to materials that will expand their sensory experiences and excite them:

COLOR

For printing: markers, crayons, color pencils, watercolor, finger paint

Paper to cut shapes from: construction paper, craft paper, cardstock

Paper for collage: used wrapping paper, newspaper (including the colorful comics), mail order catalogs

TEXTURE

Soft: cotton balls, felt, scraps of velvet, towels

Smooth: origami paper, shells, rocks

Rough: tree bark, sandpaper

SHAPE

Cylinders: empty oatmeal containers, paper towel rolls, small & full cans of fruit

Solid rectangles: empty tissue boxes, empty pasta boxes

Spheres: pompom balls, small multi-sized balls
Circles: adhesive "dot" stickers

PATTERNS

Zigzags and spirals: draw with markers on solid color paper

Stripes: cut one paper into strips and glue or tape it onto a different color sheet or draw

Polka dots: make on plain paper with crayons, large markers or sponges dipped into paint.

 Trade supplies with your friends & neighbors.
 Take another look at your potential trash -- save things you might otherwise recycle, like cereal boxes and the backs of used paper pads or notebooks. Old clothing that is too stained to give away can be useful if cut into scraps.
